Bat Trapping Demonstration

Join the Rachel Carson Trails Conservancy and Civil & Environmental Consultants, Inc. and learn about bats!

Have you ever wondered about the mammals you see flying around at dusk? Would you like to learn more about bats and have the opportunity to potentially see one up close? If so, please join us for a bat capture demonstration along Crouse Run in Hampton Township. We will meet in the parking lot next to Mineo’s pizza, then make an easy creek crossing and walk along a fairly level hiking trail that meets the Rachel Carson Trail.

Bat biologists from Civil & Environmental Consultants, Inc. (CEC) will use mist nets to survey bats and discuss all things bats with you, including the various bat species residing in the area, their benefits, the challenges they face, and what you can do to help support bat populations.

Please bring a headlamp or flashlight to help you navigate in the dark.

Participation is free but limited to 15. Please register here.

Crouse Run is a wonderful, 22-acre natural area located in Hampton Township. Rachel Carson herself studied here while she was a student at Pennsylvania Women’s College (now Chatham University). This area is considered a cold ravine, which means it contains not only the typical varieties of flora of the tri-state region, but many northern and Canadian species.
