Join us for a round-trip hike on the Rachel Carson Trail! We'll meet at Emmerling Park at 9:00 AM and hike to Log Cabin Road then hike back to Emmerling Park.

Details:

  • You don't need to notify the hike leader that you plan to attend. Simply show up on time.
  • This is an out-and-back hike. We will begin and end in the same place.
  • The hike will happen rain or shine. The hike leader can decide at the departure time if conditions are too dangerous and cancel at the last minute (lightning, for example, or if flooding is occurring).
  • Please be at the meeting place at least 10 minutes ahead of the advertised time so the leader can describe the hike and answer questions.
  • This hike will follow the yellow-blazed Rachel Carson Trail.
  • We will pause occasionally to keep the group together.
  • Bring your own water and snacks.
  • Please wear safety orange or a similar high visibility color.
  • The hike will have steep hills, unbridged stream crossings, and possibly mud, especially if it has rained in the last week.
  • To prevent lost hikers, we ask that you be able to hike at a moderate pace so you do not fall far behind the group, typically 2.2 miles per hour. If it turns out that you aren't able to do that, the trail sweep volunteers will help you find a place where you can drop out and call for a ride.
  • The restrooms at Emmerling Park should be open, but may not be. Plan accordingly.
  • Check the weather and prepare/dress accordingly. Layers are best as the start could be cold then warm up, or visa-versa, or could start sunny and start to rain. Hike leaders carry no additional clothing.
  • Although dogs are wonderful, please don't bring them on this hike.
  • The minimum unaccompanied age is 12.
  • The hike is free and open to everyone.
