The impact on RCTC events as well as general guidelines for outdoor activities.

We continue to monitor the situation closely using the established and ever-changing rules set forth by local and state authorities.  The safety and health of our trail community is our top priority. The below-listed guidelines and event information are very fluid and subject to change.  Thank you for your patience and understanding during this extradorinary time of uncertainty. 

RCTC-related updates

  1. A decision regarding The Rachel Carson Trail Challenge  (a June 20th event) will be communicated on May 4th. Should this event be cancelled, participants will receive a full refund. 
  2. RCTC organized goal-training hikes are cancelled, but parking information as well as originally planned hikes are on our website to help you plan individualized hikes. Map with parking links can be found here and originally scheduled goal-training hike information can be found here
  3. The Rachel Carson Trail spans private properties. Please be mindful of this when hiking and be vigilant with respect to trail etiquette and following COVID-19 health guidelines.

  1. The Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy is stressing the importance of parks and the beneficial effect of exercise. Please see the updated guidelines on their website to understand how you can safely utilize your local park.  
  2. The Allegheny County Website covers COVID-19 facts and guidelines as it pertains to Allegheny County
  3. Johns Hopkins University has been cited as a cutting-edge resource with respect to COVID-19 data.
