Diversity, Equity & Inclusion

Mission Statement

Rachel Carson Trails Conservancy (RCTC) believes in and values just, diverse, equitable, and inclusive trail experiences.  RCTC is committed to these principles for everyone’s enjoyment of our trails and all trails.  We strive to better include those who experience barriers to trails by prioritizing equitable solutions to ensure all can connect to and care for our trails in a way that is meaningful.  RCTC also seeks input from trail users on how we can improve our efforts towards this mission.

Goals

  1. Seek out and work with knowledgeable people in underrepresented populations as a means to better understand the barriers faced in accessing the outdoors. Strategize and collaborate on how to best to eliminate these barriers.
  2. Cultivate diversity on trails including BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People Of Color), members of the LGBTQA+ community, women, those with disabilities, all ages, and all skill levels.
  3. Be receptive to all input; keep an open mind so we may learn from one another.
  4. Strategize and implement ways to make our trails more inclusive and more accessible to a larger demographic.
  5. Support the efforts of other organizations and individuals striving to eliminate barriers to fulfilling outdoor experiences.

Participant Agreement

RCTC is committed to ensuring all hikes and events foster diverse, equitable and inclusive trail experiences. To that end, we have established these rules to make certain that all participants feel safe, comfortable and welcome.
