Reversion to the Mean
Just two years ago, the weather on Challenge Day was abnormally hot, sending the finishing rate to its lowest in decades. Last year, temperatures were closer to normal and that was reflected in the finishing rate. This year, the temperatures were below normal, with afternoon highs in the mid 70s and morning lows in the upper 50s. Correspondingly, the finishing rate continued to improve.
We had 613 start the Full Challenge in North Park, with 518 or 85% finishing within the time limit.
At the 10 AM Homestead Challenge, we had 309 start and 224 (73%) finished within the time limit. An additional 53 finished after the time limit, making the overall finish rate 90%.
We had 55 groups start the Friends & Family Challenge at Tarentum, all of which reached the Harrison Hills Park finish.
