Volunteer Opportunity in North Park

Volunteer Opportunity in North Park

Trail work to take place on Sunday, July 12th.

A volunteer work crew is needed to create a short reroute which will allow us to reopen a section of the Rachel Carson Trail in North Park.  Across from the spillway, at the intersection of Babcock Boulevard and Pearce Mill Road, the trail goes down a short, steep hill beside the bridge abutment.  To mitigate the erosion, the County has placed large rocks and smaller fill on the trail. Additionally, the county installed a reroute sign, which channels people around this section and onto an adjacent trail.  Rachel Carson Trails Conservancy (RCTC) wants to maintain the existing route to preserve the unique quality of walking along the stream.

RCTC was given written permission by the County to create a short reroute around the problem area.  Our solution will require a lot of side hill work, mostly digging.  You can bring your own tools if you like but we will have plenty of shovels, rogue hoes, mattocks and McLeods available for your use.

The hillside is steep. A lot of dirt needs to be moved.  This will be a strenuous workout if we do not get enough volunteers. Please consider lending a hand!  Contact Bob Mulshine with questions at bobmulshine@hotmail.com.
