Help promote the Challenge

by Steve Mentzer last modified May 12, 2005 01:33 PM

Post this flyer on the bulletin board at your gym or office

Please help us promote the Rachel Carson Trail Challenge by printing out copies of our "One Day 34 Miles" flyer and posting it on the bulletin board in your office and gym. Take a pair of scissors and cut the strips on the bottom so folks can easily tear off a reminder and take it with them.

Here is the flyer in PDF format (228kB).

Thanks to Bob Mulshine for suggesting this.

by Steve Mentzer last modified May 16, 2005 09:27 PM

A new 50-mile running event is set for the Baker Trail!

The Rachel Carson Trails Conservancy is pleased to announce a new trail event, the Baker Trail UltraChallenge. It's a 50-mile ultramarathon on the Baker Trail beginning at the northern trailhead (about 20 miles northeast of Clarion). It follows the trail south for 40 miles to Summerville, PA, then turns east off the trail to Brookville and ends at the Brookville YMCA. It starts at 6:30 AM and participants have until 8:30 PM, or 14 hours, to finish. It will take place on Saturday, August 27, 2005. Relay teams of up to 5 participants can register.

More information will be available on this site in May and registration will open in late May.

If you’re interested in helping organize it, please email or call Steve Mentzer at (412) 512-4544.

RCT: Deer Creek bridge out

by admin last modified Dec 11, 2004 04:48 PM

September flooding damages new bridge on the Rachel Carson Trail

Flooding damaged the bridge over Deer Creek in Emmerling Park that Indiana Township installed only last year, washing away the road leading up to the eastern abutment. For trail users the simplest solution is to rock-hop across the creek. You may be able to find a shallow(er) area by following the creek south two hundred yards or so.
